Japanese Wisteria 'Domino'

'Domino' is a highly regarded Japanese wisteria cultivar, prized for being more compact and free-flowering than many other varieties. It produces spectacular, pendulous racemes of violet-blue and white flowers that appear at the same time as the young, bronze-tinted leaves. The fragrance is delicate and sweet. This climber is particularly well-suited to smaller UK gardens or for training into a "tree" form (standard) in a large pot. Like all Wisteria floribunda varieties, it twines clockwise and its flower racemes can reach up to 30cm in length. To ensure good flowering, it requires two prunings a year: once in mid-summer (August) and once in mid-winter (January). It thrives in full sun on a south or west-facing wall, which helps to ripen the wood and promote bud formation for the following year. It is a long-lived and romantic plant that adds significant architectural value and a sense of timelessness to a property. Fully hardy throughout most of the UK.
