Crimson Glory Vine
A magnificent and incredibly vigorous deciduous climber grown primarily for its spectacular autumn foliage. It has very large, heart-shaped, deeply veined leaves that can reach up to 30cm across. In spring and summer, the leaves are a lush green with a felted underside, but in autumn they turn to breathtaking shades of scarlet, crimson, and deep purple. While it does produce tiny flowers and small black grapes, these are of no ornamental or culinary value. This vine is a forest native and uses tendrils to climb; it requires a vast amount of space and a very sturdy support, such as a large old tree, a pergola, or a long fence. It is fully hardy in the UK and easy to grow, though its size must be managed. It is best suited to larger gardens where it can be allowed to roam. It performs best in full sun or partial shade, with the best autumn colours usually occurring in sunnier spots.
