Creeping Speedwell 'Georgia Blue'

Despite its name, Veronica 'Georgia Blue' (often botanically classified under V. umbrosa) is a standout performer in British gardens. This low-growing, evergreen perennial forms a soft, spreading carpet of tiny dark green leaves that take on a rich bronze or burgundy tint in the winter. From early spring to early summer, it produces a spectacular and dense display of small, intensely blue flowers with tiny white eyes. The colour is remarkably vivid and provides a welcome early season boost to the border. It is an excellent choice for ground cover under roses or at the edge of a path, as it is vigorous enough to suppress weeds but not so aggressive as to become a nuisance. It is fully hardy (H6) and stays very low to the ground, usually under 10cm in height. It prefers well-drained soil and a sunny or partially shaded spot; in too much shade, the flowering will be less profuse. 150 words.
