Verbascum 'Silver Haze'
Verbascum bombyciferum 'Silver Haze' is an arresting biennial, grown for its incredibly striking, silvery-grey, felted rosettes of foliage in its first year, providing superb textural interest. In its second year, it sends up impressive, branched candelabras of pale lemon-yellow flowers, often reaching up to 2 metres in height, from mid-summer onwards. The fuzzy stems are also highly ornamental. This majestic plant is ideal for sunny, dry borders, gravel gardens, or creating a dramatic architectural focal point. It thrives in full sun and very well-drained, even poor, soil, flourishing in conditions that mimic its Mediterranean origins. Fully hardy in the UK (H7), 'Silver Haze' will readily self-seed, ensuring a continuous presence of its beautiful felted rosettes and elegant flower spikes.
