Lesser Bulrush

Lesser Bulrush is a graceful, architectural aquatic plant suitable for larger UK ponds and wetland areas. It features tall, slender, grey-green leaves that create an elegant vertical accent. In summer, it produces distinctive, cylindrical flower spikes: the lower, thicker part is dark brown (female flowers), separated by a gap from the narrower, paler brown upper part (male flowers). It prefers shallow water or boggy ground, rooted in muddy soil, and thrives in full sun. This plant offers structural interest and provides excellent habitat for wildlife.
