globeflower 'Golden Queen'
Trollius chinensis 'Golden Queen' is a radiant perennial that brings a splash of intense colour to the late spring and early summer garden. It produces large, bowl-shaped flowers of a brilliant, rich orange with a central cluster of long, prominent stamens that give the bloom a crown-like appearance. These flowers are held on stiff, upright stems above a mound of deeply divided, dark green foliage. Reaching about 80cm in height, it is a fantastic choice for moist borders or for planting near the edge of a pond. It thrives in heavy, moisture-retentive soils and prefers a position in full sun or partial shade. In the UK, it is particularly useful for brightening up damp areas of the garden where other sun-loving perennials might struggle. It is fully hardy and relatively easy to grow, provided the soil does not dry out during the summer. Regular deadheading will help to maintain its tidy appearance and may encourage occasional re-blooming in late summer.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Moist to wet, fertile soil.
Hardiness: H7 — below −20°C.
