Throatwort 'Passion in Blue'
Trachelium 'Passion in Blue' is a sophisticated annual (technically a short-lived perennial often grown as an annual in the UK) that produces large, flat-topped, lace-like umbels made up of thousands of tiny, deep violet-blue flowers. Reaching a height of about 60cm, it has a sturdy, upright habit with dark green, lance-shaped leaves. This plant is a favourite among florists for its incredible texture and its ability to act as a 'filler' that adds depth to arrangements. In the garden, it is highly attractive to bees and butterflies. It is a half-hardy annual (H2) and should be started early indoors, as it can be slow to reach flowering size. It requires a sunny, sheltered position and well-drained soil to thrive. While it can tolerate a little neglect, regular watering during dry spells will keep the flower heads looking fresh. In the UK, it is often treated as a high-summer and autumn star, providing rich colour when other plants are beginning to fade. It is remarkably reliable if given a warm start.

Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil.
