Silver Lime

The Silver Lime, Tilia tomentosa, is a beautiful and robust deciduous tree, well-suited to urban environments and a good choice for UK gardens looking for a stately specimen. Reaching 20-30 metres, it forms a dense, conical to broadly oval crown. Its most distinctive feature is the undersides of its heart-shaped leaves, which are covered in fine, silvery-white hairs, creating a shimmering effect as they move in the breeze. In mid-summer, highly fragrant, pale yellow flowers appear, attracting bees. Tolerant of pollution and dry conditions once established, it's very hardy, prefers full sun, and thrives in well-drained soil, making it a resilient and attractive choice.
