Foam Flower 'Iron Butterfly'
Tiarella 'Iron Butterfly' is a versatile and decorative groundcover perennial that excels in the shaded areas of UK gardens. This cultivar is prized for its deeply lobed, maple-like leaves that feature a prominent, dark purplish-black centre along the veins, creating a striking contrast against the bright green edges. In spring, it produces a spectacular display of frothy, star-shaped, pink-tinged white flowers on upright stems, giving the plant its common name 'Foam Flower'. The foliage often takes on attractive bronze or reddish tints in the autumn and winter in milder areas. It is fully hardy (H6) and prefers moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Its neat, clump-forming habit makes it an excellent choice for path edgings or for underplanting larger shrubs and trees. Tiarella is generally more tolerant of varying light levels than many woodlanders but performs best in dappled shade.
