Creeping Thyme 'Snowdrift'
'Snowdrift' is an exquisite prostrate thyme that creates a dense, low-growing carpet of tiny, bright green aromatic leaves. In the height of summer, this green mat is completely obscured by a 'drift' of pure white flowers, creating a stunning visual effect. Reaching no more than 5cm in height but spreading widely, it is the perfect plant for 'tapestry lawns', filling the gaps between paving stones, or cascading over the edge of a stone wall. The foliage is evergreen and has a mild thyme fragrance when stepped upon. It is very hardy (H5) and exceptionally drought-tolerant once established. To succeed in the UK, it must have full sun and very well-drained, even gritty, soil; it will not tolerate 'wet feet' during the winter months. It requires very little maintenance other than a light trim after flowering to keep the mat dense and tidy. It is highly attractive to bees and other small pollinators, making it a fantastic 'living mulch' for sunny beds.
