White Cedar cultivar 'Fire Chief'

Thuja occidentalis 'Fire Chief' is a unique and colourful dwarf conifer that adds warmth to the garden year-round. It has a naturally globe-shaped, dense habit and soft, lacy foliage. What makes it special is its colour: in the spring, the foliage is a bright, sage-green, which is tipped with orange and red on the newest growth. As the weather turns colder in the autumn and winter, the entire plant deepens into a rich, reddish-bronze or copper hue. It is a slow-growing plant, typically reaching only about 1 metre in height and spread after 10 years, and it requires no pruning to keep its shape. It is fully hardy (H7) and very easy to grow in most UK garden settings. It prefers a moist but well-drained soil and a position in full sun to partial shade. 'Fire Chief' is excellent for adding a pop of low-maintenance colour to a border, rockery, or as a focal point in a decorative container. Unlike some Thuja, it does not tend to lose its interior foliage.
