Soft Field Fern

Thelypteris palustris, commonly known as the Marsh Fern or Soft Field Fern, is an elegant deciduous fern native to marshy areas across the Northern Hemisphere, including the UK. It forms delicate, pale green fronds that typically reach 40-80cm in height, creating a soft, airy texture. This fern is characterised by its slender, creeping rhizomes, which allow it to spread and form colonies, making it suitable for naturalising in damp areas. It thrives in consistently wet to boggy, acidic soil and partial shade, often found at the edges of ponds or in wet woodlands. An excellent choice for adding a graceful, naturalistic feel to a bog garden or waterside planting.
