Anglo-Japanese Yew Junior 'Sentinal'
A narrower and more upright alternative to the common English Yew, 'Sentinal' is a coniferous evergreen that is perfect for creating very tight, formal hedges in restricted spaces. It has a naturally columnar habit with dense, dark green needles that stay attractive throughout the year. It is a slow-growing plant, which means it requires less frequent pruning once it reaches its desired size. Like all Yews, it is very hardy (H7) and incredibly long-lived. It can tolerate a wide variety of conditions, including deep shade and urban pollution, making it highly versatile. It prefers well-drained soil and will not tolerate waterlogging. Although it is slow-growing, it is very resilient and can be pruned hard if it ever loses its shape. All parts of the plant are highly toxic if ingested. It is an excellent choice for structure and 'green architecture' in the garden.
Sun: Full sun to full shade.
Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil; avoids waterlogging.
