English Yew 'Repens Aurea'
A low-growing, spreading form of our native Yew that is perfect for adding golden light to the lower levels of a garden. 'Repens Aurea' features horizontally extending branches covered in needles that are edged with bright yellow, especially on the new growth. Over time, it creates a wide, shimmering carpet that can light up a semi-shaded corner. It is very versatile, being extremely hardy and tolerant of a wide range of conditions, including dry shade and alkaline soils—though the golden colour is most intense in sunnier spots. It can be easily pruned to keep it within a specific area or to encourage denser growth. As with all Yews, it is long-lived and provides excellent cover for garden wildlife. While it grows slowly, its spread can eventually be significant. Beware that it is toxic if eaten. It is a superb, low-maintenance evergreen for ground cover or for spilling over a large rockery.
