English Yew 'Fastigiata Robusta'
Taxus baccata 'Fastigiata Robusta' is an excellent upright cultivar of English Yew, highly prized for formal hedging and topiary in the UK. It grows with a very dense, columnar habit, producing lush, dark green needles that are tightly packed. This particular cultivar offers a strong, architectural presence and forms an incredibly neat and impenetrable hedge. It is exceptionally slow-growing, which means less frequent maintenance once established, but requires patience. Fully hardy (H6), it tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils, including chalk, and thrives in both full sun and deep shade, making it one of the most versatile hedging plants. All parts are toxic if ingested.
Sun: Full sun to full shade.
Soil: Well-drained loam to chalk.
Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.
Flowering: Mar, Apr.
