Cut-leaf Lilac

This unusual and elegant lilac species differs significantly from the common Syringa vulgaris. It is a medium-sized deciduous shrub characterized by its deeply lobed, fern-like green foliage, which provides a light, airy texture throughout the summer. In late spring, it produces an abundance of loose, lacy panicles of pale lavender, highly fragrant flowers. Because of its finer foliage and more spreading, architectural habit, it works beautifully in a mixed border or as a specimen plant. It is fully hardy across the UK and prefers neutral to alkaline soils. It is notably more resistant to mildew than many other lilacs. To ensure the best flowering, it should be planted in a sunny position. Maintenance is relatively low, involving the removal of spent flower heads to encourage health and a light thinning of older stems in winter. It provides a more refined aesthetic than traditional lilacs while maintaining the classic scent.
