Early Flowering Lilac 'Maidens Blush'
Syringa × hyacinthiflora 'Maiden's Blush' is a delightful, early-blooming lilac that brings charm and fragrance to the UK garden in mid-spring. This upright, deciduous shrub is noted for its exceptional hardiness and its ability to flower up to two weeks earlier than the common lilac (Syringa vulgaris). In May, it produces large, dense clusters of highly fragrant, single flowers that are a soft, delicate pink with subtle lavender undertones. The heart-shaped foliage is dark green and provides a tidy backdrop for the blossoms, often taking on bronze tints in autumn. Reaching about 3 metres in height, it is an excellent choice for a mixed border or as a fragrant screen. It thrives in well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil and requires a sunny position to produce the best flower display. Deadheading is recommended to encourage vigor, and it should be pruned immediately after flowering if needed.
