Dwarf Korean Lilac 'Palibin'

'Palibin' is an exceptional dwarf lilac, perfect for UK gardens where space is at a premium. This slow-growing, deciduous shrub forms a neat, dense, rounded mound of small, dark green, heart-shaped leaves. In late spring and early summer, it is smothered in upright panicles of pale pink-lavender flowers that are intensely fragrant, attracting butterflies and bees. Unlike many larger lilacs, 'Palibin' is remarkably resistant to powdery mildew and often produces a light second flush of flowers in late summer. It is fully hardy (H6) and prefers a position in full sun with fertile, well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil. Its compact nature (reaching about 1.2 to 1.5 metres) makes it highly suitable for large containers on a patio or for inclusion in a mixed border. Minimal pruning is required; simply deadheading the spent flowers will encourage better blooming the following year and keep the plant looking tidy.
