White Comfrey

Symphytum orientale, or white comfrey, is a robust and attractive perennial, well-suited to filling shady, damp spots in UK gardens. This vigorous plant forms dense clumps of large, hairy, mid-green leaves, providing excellent ground cover. In spring, it produces an abundance of creamy-white, bell-shaped flowers held in drooping clusters above the foliage, attracting early pollinators. Growing to about 40-60cm tall, it thrives in partial to full shade and prefers moist, well-drained to damp, humus-rich soil. White comfrey is fully hardy throughout the UK (H6) and is particularly useful for difficult, perpetually damp areas where other plants struggle. It's a low-maintenance plant that offers reliable greenery and subtle floral beauty.
