Creeping Comfrey 'Wisley Blue'

Symphytum grandiflorum 'Wisley Blue' is an exceptionally tough and vigorous ground cover, ideal for those troublesome, shaded corners of the garden where little else will survive. It quickly forms a dense carpet of large, hairy, oval green leaves that are very effective at suppressing even the most persistent weeds. In mid-spring, it is topped with clusters of nodding, tubular flowers that emerge from reddish buds, opening to a beautiful sky-blue. This plant is particularly useful for banks and slopes or for naturalising under the shade of large trees. It is fully hardy and very easy to grow, though its vigorous nature means it is best suited to larger gardens or areas where it can be allowed to spread freely. It is highly attractive to bees and other pollinators. While it can be deciduous in colder winters, it is one of the first plants to re-emerge in spring with a lush, green canopy. It is a reliable performer in almost any soil type.
