Michaelmas Daisy 'Purple Dome'
While most Michaelmas daisies are tall, 'Purple Dome' is a unique dwarf variety that makes a stellar late-season ground cover. It naturally forms a very tight, compact, and rounded mound of grey-green foliage that requires no staking. From late August through to October, the plant is completely buried under a mass of semi-double, vibrant violet-purple daisy-like flowers with bright yellow centers. This spectacular display provides a much-needed burst of colour when many other garden plants are starting to fade. It is a magnet for late-season butterflies and bees. Fully hardy and robust, it thrives in a sunny spot with reasonably moist soil. To keep the plant healthy and prevent the center from becoming bare, it should be divided every few years in spring. Its mildew resistance is better than many other Asters, making it a reliable and low-maintenance choice for the front of a border.
