Dwarf Michaelmas Daisy 'Anneke'
For late-season colour at ground level, 'Anneke' is an outstanding choice. This dwarf Michaelmas Daisy (often still found under the genus Aster) forms a compact, mounded carpet of narrow, dark green leaves. From late August into October, when many other ground covers have finished flowering, it produces a spectacular and dense display of nectar-rich, daisy-like flowers in a vibrant shade of deep pinkish-purple with bright yellow centres. These blooms are a vital late-season food source for bees and butterflies. Reaching only about 30cm in height, it is perfect for the front of a border or for adding a splash of colour to a low terrace. It is fully hardy (H7) and prefers a position in full sun with moist but well-drained soil. Good air circulation is beneficial to prevent powdery mildew, a common issue with some Asters. It is a reliable, clump-forming perennial that brings the curtain down on the gardening year with a flourish. 166 words.
