Bridal Wreath

Spiraea × arguta, often called 'Bridal Wreath', is one of the most beautiful and reliable spring-flowering shrubs for UK gardens. It is a deciduous shrub with a dense, twiggy habit and very narrow, bright green leaves. In mid-spring, its long, slender, arching branches are completely smothered in clusters of tiny, pure white flowers, creating a stunning frothy effect that looks like a cascade of snow. This spectacular display makes it an ideal specimen for a mixed border or as a focal point in a cottage garden. It is fully hardy (H6) and adaptable to most garden soils. It prefers a position in full sun to ensure the best flowering, though it will tolerate very light shade. To keep the plant looking its best and to maintain the elegant arching habit, it should be pruned immediately after flowering; about a quarter of the oldest stems can be cut back to ground level to encourage vigorous new growth for the following year. It is a tough, trouble-free, and classic garden shrub.
