Bridal Wreath Spiraea

Commonly known as the Bridal Wreath, Spiraea x arguta is a classic deciduous spring-flowering shrub. It features a graceful, arching habit that becomes completely smothered in tiny, pure white flowers in April and May, making the branches look as though they have been dusted with snow. The leaves are small, narrow, and bright green, turning a soft yellow in the autumn. This is a very hardy and easy-to-grow shrub that is well-suited to the UK climate. It is versatile and can be used in a mixed border, as a flowering hedge, or as a specimen plant. For the best flowering display, it should be pruned immediately after the flowers have faded, cutting back the flowed shoots to strong new growth. It thrives in any reasonable garden soil in a sunny or lightly shaded position.

Sun: Full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Well-drained, most soil types.

Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.

Flowering: Apr, May.
