Spinach 'Amazon'

'Amazon' is a versatile and fast-growing spinach variety designed to overcome the common UK problem of premature bolting. It produces rounded, dark green, slightly thick leaves that are exceptionally succulent. This variety is particularly well-suited for 'baby leaf' production, where leaves can be harvested in as little as 3-4 weeks for use in salads. However, if left to grow to maturity, the leaves remain tender and are excellent for steaming or wilting into pasta dishes. It is a slow-growing variety which helps it maintain quality over a longer period. In the UK, 'Amazon' can be sown from March to May for summer crops, or in August and September for an autumn and early winter harvest. It prefers a cool, moist soil and some shade during the hottest parts of the day to prevent the leaves from becoming tough. It is also resistant to several strains of downy mildew, ensuring a healthy, green crop throughout the season.
