Service Tree

A rare native European deciduous tree, forming a medium to large specimen with an attractive, rounded crown, reaching 10-20m tall with a similar spread. It is valued for its showy white flowers in spring, similar to rowan, followed by distinctive apple or pear-shaped fruits (sorb-apples) that turn brownish-red and become edible when bletted. Fully hardy (H6), it prefers full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating chalk. A resilient and unusual choice for a specimen tree, offering both ornamental and edible value.
