Bisset's Rowan

Sorbus bissetii is a charming and somewhat unusual small rowan, perfect for those looking for something different from the common red-berried varieties. This deciduous tree has a neat, upright habit and elegant, finely-divided grey-green foliage. In late spring, it produces clusters of white flowers. However, its most distinctive feature is the fruit; in autumn, it produces bunches of eye-catching pearly-white berries that are often tinged with pink as they ripen. These berries contrast beautifully with the foliage as it turns shades of purple and red before falling. Like most Sorbus, it is a hardy tree and well-suited to the UK climate. It prefers well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil and a position in full sun or light dappled shade. Its small stature and unique berry colour make it an excellent choice for a specimen in a smaller garden or as part of a collection of ornamental trees.

Sun: Full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Well-drained, acidic to neutral soil.
