Potato 'Sarpo Mira'
'Sarpo Mira' is a legendary maincrop potato variety known globally but especially favoured in Britain for its incredible resistance to late blight—the disease that can decimate a potato crop in a single damp UK week. Developed by the Sarvari family, it is a vigorous grower that produces a high yield of large, oval, red-skinned tubers. The flesh is white and has a floury texture, making it best suited for roasting, chipping, or mashing. One of its most notable traits is its extreme vigour; the foliage grows so densely that it naturally smothers most weeds. It also has a long dormancy period, meaning the tubers store exceptionally well through the winter without sprouting prematurely. It should be planted in April and harvested in September or October. Because of its vigorous nature, it needs plenty of space and can be quite thirsty. It is the ultimate "low-input" potato, ideal for organic gardeners or those with allotments where regular spraying is not desired. It is a truly robust and reliable garden staple.
