Potato (First Early) 'Foremost'
'Foremost' is a quintessential British 'First Early' potato, first introduced in 1954 and still a firm favourite for its classic new potato taste. It produces short-oval tubers with white skin and firm, waxy, white flesh that holds its shape perfectly when boiled. The flavour is often described as exceptionally delicate and 'nutty'. Being a first early, it has a fast growing cycle, often ready to harvest in as little as 10 to 12 weeks from planting. In the UK, it is typically planted in late March and harvested in June, providing those highly anticipated first tastes of summer. Because of its early harvest, it often escapes the worst of the late-summer potato blight. The plants are compact and manageable, making 'Foremost' an excellent choice for growing in potato bags or containers for those with limited space. It is a reliable performer that consistently wins flavour trials.
