Second Early Potato 'Charlotte'
'Charlotte' is arguably the most popular salad potato grown in the UK, frequently winning awards for its exceptional flavour and texture. As a second early variety, it matures slightly later than first earlies but offers a significantly higher yield. It produces long, oval tubers with smooth, creamy-yellow skins and waxy, lemon-yellow flesh. The texture is firm and resists breaking up during cooking, making it the perfect choice for boiling, steaming, and serving cold in salads with a simple vinaigrette or mayonnaise. It also roasts surprisingly well if parboiled first. The plants are vigorous with a spreading habit and provide good resistance to common scab and potato viruses. In the garden, 'Charlotte' is a reliable performer, producing a heavy crop of uniformly sized potatoes that store reasonably well for a salad type. It performs best in a sunny spot with plenty of organic matter dug into the soil and regular watering during tuber bulking.
