Crowned gloxinia

Sinningia leucotricha, often called Crowned Gloxinia or Brazilian Edelweiss, is a captivating tuberous perennial, highly prized for its velvety, silvery-white foliage and striking orange-red, tubular flowers. The rounded leaves are covered in fine, soft hairs, giving them an almost metallic sheen and a tactile quality. Clusters of bright, trumpet-shaped flowers emerge from the leaf axils in spring and early summer, creating a vibrant display. It typically grows to a height of 20-30cm and has a spreading habit of about 30-40cm. This plant thrives in bright, indirect light or partial shade and requires very well-drained soil, as the tuber is susceptible to rot. It is often grown as a conservatory plant or in pots, moved outdoors in sheltered spots during summer. Protect from frost. It’s an unusual and exotic choice, providing unique texture and colour.
