Kuma Bamboo

Shibataea kumasasa, commonly known as Kuma Bamboo, is a distinctive, dwarf running bamboo highly valued for its broad, short, dark green leaves that resemble a small-leafed evergreen shrub. Growing to just 60-90cm, it forms a dense, spreading mat, making it an excellent ground cover, low hedge, or edging plant. Its slender, zig-zagging culms add to its unique character. While a runner, its shallow root system is relatively easy to contain. It is very hardy (H6) and exceptionally versatile, thriving in full sun to deep shade and tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions, including dry shade once established. Flowering is very rare. Its robust nature and unique foliage make it an invaluable plant for difficult areas or for creating formal borders.

Sun: Full sun to full shade.
