Spear Head
Senecio kleiniiformis is a unique succulent with an unmistakable leaf shape that resembles a three-pointed spear or a fleur-de-lis. The leaves are a soft, glaucous blue-green and have a slightly fleshy, waxy texture. This plant grows in an upright, shrubby habit and can reach about 15-30cm in height, making it a good choice for providing vertical interest in a mixed succulent pot. It is native to South Africa and is rated H2 in the UK, meaning it is a tender plant that needs to be kept indoors over winter. In late summer or autumn, it produces clusters of small, pale yellow, daisy-like flowers on long stalks, which have a light, sweet fragrance. It prefers a bright, sunny position to prevent the stems from becoming leggy and to maintain its distinct leaf shape. It is drought-tolerant and requires a well-draining potting mix, with watering only when the soil is dry to the touch. Its unusual foliage makes it a must-have for succulent enthusiasts.
