Houseleek 'Bernstein'

Sempervivum 'Bernstein' is a captivating variety of the hardy houseleek, prized for its unique and shifting colour palette. The medium-sized rosettes feature fleshy leaves that transition from a warm amber-yellow to a rich copper-orange, often taking on deeper bronze tones during the winter months. This cultivar is extremely hardy (H7) and perfectly suited for the British climate, thriving in crevices, rock gardens, or shallow stone troughs. Like all Sempervivums, it is monocarpic, meaning the individual rosette that flowers will die, but it produces numerous 'chicks' on short stolons to ensure the plant's longevity. In summer, mature rosettes produce star-shaped, pinkish-red flowers on short, thick stalks. It requires excellent drainage to prevent rot during wet UK winters and prefers a position in full sun to maintain its intense coloration. It is a low-maintenance choice for adding intricate texture and year-round interest to small garden spaces.
