Houseleek

Sempervivum calcareum, commonly known as the Houseleek, is a charming and tough succulent perfectly suited for UK rockeries, troughs, and green roofs. This variety forms attractive rosettes of grey-green leaves tipped with reddish-brown, creating a striking contrast. Over time, it produces offsets, gradually forming a dense mat. In summer, mature rosettes send up tall stalks bearing star-shaped, pale pink flowers, though the foliage is its primary appeal. Extremely hardy, it thrives in full sun and requires impecable drainage to prevent rot. It's an excellent choice for low-maintenance, drought-tolerant planting and adds fantastic texture.

Sun: Full sun.

Soil: Very well-drained gritty soil.
