Orange Stonecrop 'Weihenstephaner Gold'
'Weihenstephaner Gold' is an exceptional ground-covering succulent that is perfectly suited to the British climate. This cultivar of the Kamchatka Stonecrop forms a dense, low mat of dark green, coarsely toothed leaves that are slightly succulent. In mid-summer, it is almost completely covered in a blanket of starry, golden-yellow flowers that age to a deep orange-bronze, followed by attractive reddish seed heads. The foliage itself often turns shades of red and bronze in the autumn before the plant goes dormant for the winter. It is incredibly tough (H7) and can handle the damp winters of the UK far better than many other succulents. It is an ideal plant for green roofs, rockeries, or as an edging plant for sunny paths. It thrives in even the poorest of soils and is very effective at suppressing weeds. Minimal maintenance is required beyond removing old flower heads if a tidier look is preferred.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Any well-drained soil.
Hardiness: H7 — below −20°C.
Flowering: Jun, Jul, Aug.
