Japanese Umbrella Pine 'Gracilis'
Sciadopitys verticillata 'Gracilis' is a more compact and slender form of the unique Japanese Umbrella Pine, making it suitable for smaller gardens while retaining the species' distinctive charm. It forms a dense, narrowly conical tree with whorls of long, glossy green, flattened needles, similar to umbrella spokes. This slow-growing cultivar eventually reaches an ultimate height of 5-10m and a spread of 2-4m. It thrives in a sheltered position in full sun to partial shade and prefers consistently moist, well-drained, acidic soil. It is hardy (H5-H6) but benefits from protection from cold, drying winds when young. The unusual foliage provides year-round architectural interest. An exquisite specimen plant for a refined garden setting.
