Zebra Rush 'Albescens'
Note: User requested Schoenoplectus lacustris Albescens. Description: This striking ornamental rush is grown for its tall, slender, architectural stems. Unlike the typical green rush, the cultivar 'Albescens' features stems that are heavily striped vertically with cream and pale green, appearing almost white from a distance. It is a fantastic plant for adding vertical interest and a touch of light to the pond margins. It grows to around 100-120cm tall and forms a slowly spreading clump. In late summer, small, brownish flower spikes appear near the tips of the stems, though they are secondary to the foliage interest. It is fully hardy and thrives in shallow water up to 15-20cm deep or in boggy mud. Because of its height, it may need protection from very strong winds to prevent the stems from snapping. It is perfect for contemporary pond designs where clean lines and variegated textures are desired.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Wet mud or shallow water.
Hardiness: H5 — down to −15°C.
Flowering: Jul, Aug.
