Silver Saxifrage
'Southside Seedling' is one of the most famous and spectacular of the 'silver' or encrusted Saxifrages. It forms beautiful, architectural rosettes of stiff, leathery leaves that are edged with white lime encrustations. In early summer, it produces large, arching panicles of white flowers, each petal of which is heavily spotted and flushed with deep red, creating a stunning bicoloured effect. It is a classic plant for a vertical crevice or a north-facing wall, where the rosettes can be seen to their best advantage and the flower spikes can hang naturally. It is fully hardy (H5) but, like all encrusted saxifrages, it must have excellent drainage and should be planted so that water cannot sit in the centre of the rosette, which can cause rot. It is a slow-growing but long-lived and incredibly rewarding plant that adds both foliage and floral interest to the rock garden.碎,flowering_months:[
