Kuma-zasa Bamboo stick 'Nana'
Sasa veitchii 'Nana' is a dwarf, more compact version of the classic Kuma-zasa bamboo, making it much more suitable for smaller UK gardens or containers. It typically reaches only 50-80cm in height. It is world-famous for its stunning winter appearance; as the weather turns cold, the edges of the broad, dark green leaves wither and turn a crisp, parchment-white. This results in a beautiful, natural variegation that looks like the leaves have been precisely painted or frosted. It creates an incredible visual effect in the winter garden when most other plants are dormant. It is exceptionally hardy (H6) and thrives in shade, making it a perfect choice for underplanting large trees or filling shady corners. As a running bamboo, it can spread quickly as a groundcover, so it should be contained unless a large-scale colonisation is desired. It prefers moist, fertile soil and is very low maintenance, only requiring a hard prune every few years to refresh the foliage.
Sun: Partial shade to full shade.
