Soapwort 'Bressingham'

Saponaria 'Bressingham' is a fantastic hybrid soapwort that is significantly more compact than its parent species, making it an ideal choice for the smaller UK rock garden or trough. It forms a dense, prostrate mat of small, dark green leaves that provides excellent ground cover. In early summer, it is absolutely covered with massed clusters of brilliant, deep pink, five-petalled flowers. The effect is a vibrant carpet of colour that lasts for several weeks. This cultivar is particularly valued for its 'good behavior' as it does not spread aggressively like some of its relatives. It is fully hardy (H5) and thrives in a position of full sun and well-drained soil. It is an excellent choice for planting in the gaps of a dry stone wall or at the edge of a gravel path. To maintain its tidy hummock shape and encourage a potential second flush of flowers, it can be lightly sheared back after the initial blooming period. A reliable and highly decorative alpine.
