Cotton Lavender 'Nana,description:'

Santolina chamaecyparissus 'Nana' is a dwarf version of the popular Cotton Lavender, making it much more suitable for alpine and rock gardens. It forms a tight, rounded, evergreen mound of finely divided, coral-like foliage that is a strikingly bright silvery-white. The foliage is strongly aromatic when brushed against or crushed. In mid-summer, it produces small, button-like, bright yellow flower heads on short stems. While the flowers are attractive, many gardeners choose to clip them off to preserve the neat, silvery-white hummock shape of the plant. This 'Nana' cultivar is exceptionally drought-tolerant and thrives in poor, well-drained soils and full sun. In the UK, it is highly valued for its winter structure and its ability to provide a bright, neutral foil for more colourful flowering alpines. It is hardy, but it must have good drainage to survive a wet British winter without rotting. Protect from cold, drying winds.
