Wood Sage 'Tänzerin'
Salvia x sylvestris 'Tänzerin' is a vibrant and reliable perennial that brings intense colour to the early summer garden. It produces dense, upright spikes of rich violet-purple flowers that are held on dark stems, providing a beautiful contrast. The plant has a neat, clump-forming habit, typically reaching around 60cm in height. It is highly valued in the UK for its long flowering period and its ability to attract a wide range of pollinators, particularly bees. This cultivar is very hardy (H7) and thrives in a sunny position with well-drained soil. It is relatively drought-tolerant once established. To encourage a second flush of flowers in late summer, it is advisable to cut the plant back hard immediately after the first flowering has finished. This also helps to maintain a compact shape. 'Tänzerin' is an excellent choice for a traditional herbaceous border, a gravel garden, or even in large containers. Its aromatic foliage is a further bonus, although it is primarily grown for its stunning floral display.
