Rosemary 'McConnells Blue'
A refined, semi-prostrate variety of the classic Mediterranean culinary herb, 'McConnell's Blue' is highly valued for its elegant, spreading habit and prolific flowering. It forms a dense carpet of needle-like, aromatic, dark green foliage that is silvery-white on the underside. In mid-spring and early summer, it is adorned with small but intensely bright blue flowers that are a magnet for pollinators. This cultivar is particularly well-suited for cascading over the edges of raised beds, walls, or large containers, where it can be appreciated for its form and scent. It is generally hardy (H4) but requires a position in full sun and very well-drained soil to survive damp UK winters. Excessive winter wet is its greatest enemy. It is a versatile plant, serving as both an ornamental groundcover and a productive kitchen garden staple. Regular light harvesting or pruning after flowering will help maintain its shape and encourage fresh, lush growth.
