Golden Weeping Willow 'Chrysocoma'
This is the quintessential weeping willow seen gracing riverbanks and large pond edges across the UK. Salix x sepulcralis 'Chrysocoma' is a large, fast-growing deciduous tree with a wide-spreading crown and long, slender, bright yellow branches that sweep the ground. In spring, the bare golden twigs are a highlight, followed by narrow, bright green leaves and yellow catkins that appear with the foliage. It is most famous for its incredibly graceful, pendulous habit. While it is a magnificent sight, it is only suitable for very large gardens where there is ample space, as its roots are vigorous and far-reaching. It thrives in moist or even wet soils and is famously associated with waterside locations. It is fully hardy and incredibly easy to grow, provided it has enough moisture and room to expand. Its winter silhouette, with its waterfall of golden stems, is particularly beautiful.
