Corkscrew Willow 'Tortuosa'

The Corkscrew Willow is one of the most distinctive architectural trees available for the UK garden. Its primary appeal lies in its extraordinary, contorted, and spiralling branches and twigs, which provide a fascinating silhouette, especially during the winter months when the tree is bare. Even the narrow, lance-shaped leaves are somewhat curled and twisted. It is a fast-growing deciduous tree with an upright, narrow habit when young, eventually becoming more rounded. Like most willows, it is extremely easy to grow and thrives in moist or even wet soils, though it is surprisingly adaptable to drier conditions. It is fully hardy (H6). Because of its rapid growth, it may require regular pruning or coppicing to keep it at a manageable size for a smaller garden. The twisted branches are highly sought after by florists for decorative arrangements. It is a tough, reliable, and visually intriguing tree that adds a touch of the unusual to any landscape.
