Goat Willow

A fast-growing, deciduous native UK small tree or large shrub, often one of the first to flower in spring. It typically reaches 4-10m in height and spread, forming a rounded crown. Fully hardy (H7), it is unfussy about soil type, tolerating wet and poor conditions, and thrives in full sun to partial shade. Its prominent, furry 'pussy willow' catkins are a vital early source of nectar and pollen for bees and other insects, appearing in late winter/early spring before the leaves emerge. An excellent choice for wildlife gardens, damp areas, or for coppicing.

Sun: Full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Moist to wet.

Hardiness: H7 — below −20°C.

Flowering: Feb, Mar, Apr.
