Wineberry Rubus phoenicolasius

The Wineberry is an ornamental and productive cane fruit, native to East Asia, but well-suited to the UK climate. It produces clusters of bright orange-red, sweet, and slightly tart berries with a unique, subtle flavour, perfect for eating fresh, tarts, or preserves. What truly sets it apart are its attractive sticky, reddish-hairy stems, which catch the light beautifully, and its soft, felted leaves. This vigorous, arching shrub is self-fertile and very hardy. Tiny pale pink flowers appear in June, followed by fruit ripening from late July to August. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil, and can benefit from support to manage its growth habit.
