Climbing Rose 'The Lady of the Lake'
While roses are global plants, this David Austin variety has a distinctively delicate, airy character reminiscent of Mediterranean wild roses, while maintaining the repeat-blooming habit required for UK gardens. It is a graceful rambler or short climber that produces long, flexible canes that are easily trained over arches or pergolas. Throughout the summer, it bears sprays of semi-double, blush-pink flowers that open to reveal golden stamens. The scent is fresh and citrusy. What makes this suitable for a Mediterranean scheme is its ability to handle poorer soils and its light, open habit that doesn't overwhelm smaller spaces. It is very healthy and hardy (H6). In the UK, it should be grown in full sun to maximise flower production. Prune in late winter by removing a few of the oldest canes to encourage vigorous new growth from the base. High disease resistance makes it a low-maintenance choice.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Moist but well-drained loam.
Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.
Flowering: Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep.
