Rose 'Susan Williams-Ellis'
This rose is a pure white sport of the popular pink variety 'The Mayflower'. It is a quintessential English Shrub Rose, producing medium-sized, deeply rosetted flowers that are exceptionally fragrant with a strong Old Rose scent. One of its most significant advantages for the UK gardener is its remarkable health; it is almost entirely resistant to common rose diseases like blackspot and mildew. It also starts flowering very early in the season, often several weeks before other varieties. The shrub is upright and bushy, reaching about 1m in height, with small, matte green leaves. It is very hardy and performs well even in colder, more exposed locations. Because of its purity and fragrance, it is a perfect choice for a sensory garden or a formal white garden. It repeat-blooms reliably throughout the summer and into the autumn, especially if deadheaded regularly to encourage new buds.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Any well-drained, fertile soil.
Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.
